Clausen, the nation’s top prospect, is the first California player to be ranked No. 1 overall since Dee Jay Williams in the Class of 2000. As the nation's top quarterback prospect, he's the second Golden State signal caller in three years to be bestowed with that honor, joining Mission Viejo's Mark Sanchez from the Class of 2005. Clausen threw for 3,665 yards and 58 touchdowns his junior season, earning All-State and All-American honors. That followed a sophomore year in which he threw for 2,778 yards and 30 touchdowns, earning state Sophomore of the Year honors. In one of the most highly-publicized recruitments in recent memory, Clausen continued the family tradition of heading east to play college football just as brothers Casey (Tennessee) and Rick (LSU, then Tennessee) did and will enroll at the University of Notre Dame in January.
